B4Baby is a breastfeeding education and support service for mothers in South Auckland. With over 20 years of experience, the team includes breastfeeding advocates and a lactation consultant who guide mothers through their feeding journey. Antenatal education sessions cover everything from the benefits of breastfeeding and recognising hunger cues, to safe expressing, milk storage, and managing common challenges such as engorgement or latch issues. Sessions also include practical demonstrations, helping mothers feel informed and confident before baby arrives. Hapū Wānanga offers one-day antenatal education classes that focus on natural, whānau-centred birthing and early parenting. This programme empowers women and their whānau with knowledge and confidence for labour, birth, and the early weeks at home. Ngā Hau now operates as a whānau-centered birthing facility led by a Pasifika and Māori partnership model between Tagata Moana and Turuki Health Care (Turuki). The partnership between Tagata Moana and Turuki brings together a shared kaupapa, demonstrating a significant investment in equity, innovation, and community-driven care for South Auckland whānau. This partnership represents a tightly connected, culturally grounded approach to maternity and early year services care, ensuring high-quality, accessible support for all māmā and pēpi. Our Expectations for Whānau Experience We value the services our kaimahi deliver at Ngā Hau and want to ensure our whānau have a culturally and clinically safe experience. We acknowledge every experience will be different and unique to each whānau. At a minimum, we expect whānau birthing at Nga Hau to experience the following: Whānau feel well-informed, educated, and confident about their choices Whānau feel supported and cared for Whānau feel their cultural perspectives and needs are acknowledged and responded to in a culturally and clinically safe way Whānau feel their wellbeing and health are at the centre of the services we deliver Our Outcomes As a partnership, Tagata Moana and Turuki have developed a set of shared outcomes for Ngā Hau. At Nga Hau Birthing Centre, we provide postnatal care in the comfort of your own room, including daily meals. Start your day with a self-serve breakfast, followed by a light morning tea and a variety of lunch options, including dietary preferences. Enjoy High Tea in the afternoon and dinner with restaurant-style meal choices. All meals use locally sourced ingredients, ensuring a wholesome and satisfying experience during your stay. Nga Hau Birthing Centre Meals and in-room care Your Stay Our Suites What to Bring Meals and In-room care Nutritious meals are provided for māmā during their stay. If you have a specific dietary requirement we will do our best to meet your needs. Here’s what you can expect: Breakfast (7am - 9am) Two breakfast plates are available each morning for māmā and their support person. Morning Tea (10am - 10.30am) A light morning snack is provided to keep you going between meals. Lunch (12.15pm - 1.15 pm) Lunch includes a selection of meal options, with consideration for dietary requirements such as vegetarian and gluten-free. Ingredients are locally sourced where possible. Afternoon High Tea (3.30pm) Served each afternoon and includes items such as cupcakes and sandwiches, presented on shared platters in the communal space. Dinner (6pm - 6.30pm) Dinner is provided each evening, with a choice of delicious restaurant-style meals.

Ngatepaeru Marsters Nga Marsters is the Clinical Lead Midwife at Nga Hau Māngere Birthing Centre, where she leads a dedicated team providing safe, whānau-centred care for birthing families. A midwife for over 20 years, Nga was one of the founding members of Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa and played a key role in the vision that led to establishing the Māngere Birthing Centre in 2019. Her experience and commitment to empowering families continue to shape the care and culture of the centre today.
